How to Use FileZilla

Today we are going to learn the basics of how to use Filezilla. Filezilla uses what is called FTP. Now FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. I won’t get in to too much detail on how this is used but for now that is all you need to know.

So you can get the Filezilla program from https://filezilla-project.org/

Find the two very large buttons about a quarter of the way down the page. You will have one that says Download Filezilla Client and another that says, Download Filezilla Server. You need to download the Client not the Server.

So after you have it downloaded and installed you will be presented with a screen that looks like this:

We will go through each one.

First is your FTP Address. Now when you first sign up with Arvixe you will get an email telling you all of the login info as well as your FTP address etc. An example of this would be ftp.myexample.com  that is an address however the myexample part would be your domain.

Second is your username it’s generally your cpanel login name.

Third is password that is also your password used for cpanel or your billing panel.

Fourth is the port that your FTP goes through. For Arvixe it’s 21. Though you don’t have to input any information into this because it will automatically connect anyways.

After you input this information you can click Quick Connect

You should see dialog in box right below it that looks similar to this:

All of that green and it saying Connection Established and approved mean you are good to go. You should see two boxes below that. The right box is your server that is hosted on Arvixe the left box is your Local Machine. As you can see in the Image below.

After you are all logged in and ready to go navigate on your server which is the right box or number 2 in the image above to public_html or www/root. They are the same thing just named different, they are also on different hosting plans. The ASP hosting plans or the Windows Hosting plans have www/root and the Linux hosting plans have public_html.

Finally is the last box. This is the Queue line box. Whenever you move files from your pc to your service the status of the transfer will be displayed here.
