How Can We Help?

Moving from GoDaddy to WebHostingPeople

You are here:

Transferring a cPanel website to WebHostingPeople is really easy. cPanel is a control panel that can be used to manage a Linux hosting. Our Standard Web Hosting comes with the control panel cPanel. The cPanel is the most popular Linux control panel in the web hosting industry. You can easily migrate a website from any hosting to WebHostingPeople using this control panel. This transfer of website is often called migration regardless of the control panel.

For a cPanel website, it would be associated with a cPanel account. Either it would be the primary domain of that account or it would be an addon domain. In this tutorial, we assume you have a Standard Web Hosting package with us and we are going to see how to migrate a full cPanel account from GoDaddy to WebHostingPeople.

cPanel migration GoDaddy to WebHostingPeople

1) Login to GoDaddy cPanel

Login to your cPanel interface at the GoDaddy. Please follow the steps below to login to the GoDaddy cPanel.

Go to https://www.godaddy.com/ and click on the button “Sign in” on the right top end. Now you need to click on the “Manage” button on the right end of the Webhosting row.

2) Backup creation

Click on the icon “Backup” from the “Files” category. This will lead to you the next page where you could choose the type of backup needs to be done. You could refer the screen shot below.

Godaddy

In the next page, you need to click on the button “Download a Full Website Backup”. This will generate the backup of full cPanel account and will save the backup on a selected location. Available locations to choose are listed below.

1) Home directory

2) Remote FTP server

3) Remote FTP server (passive mode Transfer)

4) SCP

The best option is Home directory. You could select home directory and provide an email address so that a notification email would be sent to the email when the backup generation is completed. It is shown in the screen shot below.

Godaddy

3) Start backup process

After selecting the backup location, please click on the “Generate Backup” button.

The download will start now and you will get an email notification when the backup is completed.

4) Download the backup

Once the notification email is received, you could move the backup into /home/public_html/ location and make the permission of the backup file 644. This can be done on cPanel >> Files >> File Manager. Now you could download the website into your computer by calling http://yourdomain.com/backup_file.tar.gz where “yourdomain.com” is the primary domain name of your cPanel account and backup_file.tar.gz is the cPanel backup we’ve just created.

After downloading the backup, you need to upload the backup to your WebHostingPeople hosting account.

5) Upload the backup to WebHostingPeople

Please refer the below guide to upload the website using FileZilla, an FTP client.

Please follow the steps described from our following tutorial to create a new FTP account if no FTP account is created yet.

You could open ticket from the portal at https://my.WebHostingPeople.net >> Support >> Open New Ticket. Please mention if you like to restore not the entire cPanel account but only a few domains.
